Behavior Chains are Moving Pictures

When I was writing this reply I had this epiphany: Behavior Chains are Moving Pictures.

Most good trainers are aware that dogs see in pictures and that dogs don't generalize well when the picture changes too radically.

What if we looked at a behavior chain as a series of pictures - as a movie.

If the dog knows how the flick ends, he's going to act appropriately. If the dog doesn't know what's coming, he's going to react to the situation as it develops.

So, in Steve's case, his dog knows exactly what the flick is about at the moment it starts. It's a standard plot with the same scenes, and all movies end with a titanic fight scene with lots of blood and gore.

Perhaps it's time for him to see a chic flick?

Cheers,

Ron
